Why "Cinco Lemps?"

In case you are wondering what the name of my blog means, "Cinco Lemps" stands for Five Lempiras. The Lempira is the national currency of Honduras, and is quite unusual among national currency names. Lempira was a bold and fearless Lenca Indian chief who led an insurgency against the Spanish colonial occupation in the 17th Century; his rebellion did not succeed. Nonetheless, his inspiration to other indigenous Hondurans has earned him at least a full chapter in any Honduran elementary history textbook. I called the blog "Five Lempiras" because that was the denomination most frequently found in my wallet on any given day-small business owners such as the baleada maker on the corner always preferred to take little bills, from which it was easy to make change.
