Western Honduras, like Vermont where we had previously hailed from, is mostly untrammeled wilderness, with no major cities and only a slight human presence. These images, taken from the highway between Copan and Cofradia, give a good idea of the nature of the landscape in this part of the country. Ribbons of jungle-clad mountains, interspersed with verdant valleys fed by fast moving, lukewarm rivers, bisected by poorly maintained roads cutting through here and there, and all of it a dozen hues of bright Irish green (if only the Emerald Isle were more tropical and humid).
